Press Release | Zurich, June 12, 2024 | Swiss Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC) Board Stands United

Zurich, June 12, 2024 – The Swiss Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC) is taking decisive action to ensure the integrity and proper governance of its organization. Following recent events, the Board of SACC is committed to address and resolve internal challenges.

In late 2023, the longstanding General Manager of the Chamber, Ms. Barbara Moeckli-Schneider suffered a serious health issue. In response, a Task Force was established to manage administrative matters. The members of Task Force include: Roger Leitner, Mark DangelNathan Kaiser, Andreas Weckherlin, Nilayini Vamatheva, Marco Ruocco However, the Task Force seized this opportunity to attempt a takeover of the Chamber's leadership. By interpreting ambiguous statutes to their advantage, the Task Force has been trying to disenfranchise previously elected Board members and introduce a contentious Two China Policy to SACC.

Furthermore, the new General Manager, Roger Leitner, used the Chairman's signature without his approval on at least one occasion. The Task Force currently holds key operational instruments, including control over the website, bank accounts and membership roster and acts without accountability.

On June 10, 2024, the Task Force held a meeting where they resolved to revoke the membership of the Chairman and three other elected Board members who had urged them to engage in an open dialogue with the Board. This action was publicly communicated through an updated Board list on the SACC

website, which notably excludes the Chairman and most of the duly elected Board members.

In response, the Board has resolved to vigorously oppose this unwarranted takeover and restore proper governance. SACC remains committed to its mission of fostering robust business relations between Switzerland and Asia and will spare no effort to maintain the organization’s integrity.

Press Release | Zurich, Switzerland---Sept. 20. 2024 | Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce Files Legal Charges Following Falsified Registration Incident

On or around August 20, 2024, Roger Leitner and Mark Dangel registered themselves, along with Nathan Kaiser, Andreas Weckherlin, Nilayini Vamatheva, Marco Ruocco, and Ariste Chiabotti, as signatories of the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC). This registration was accomplished mainly by using a deceitfully falsified extract of minutes of an Annual General Assembly.

“We are deeply disappointed by the breach of trust caused by these individuals, most of whom have joined the Chamber only very recently," said Dr. Urs Lustenberger, Chairman of the SACC Board. "Our commitment to transparency and accountability in business is unwavering, and we will ensure that those responsible for this deceitful registration are held accountable in accordance with the law."

Due to prior actions of the named individuals aimed at undermining the Chamber through various means, the Board of Directors of the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC) resolved, during its meeting on June 10, 2024, to expel them from the Chamber. This decision was formally announced to the public in a press release dated July 25, 2024. Despite their expulsion, which voided their capacity to act for the Chamber, their conduct has regrettably continued, culminating in deceiving the registrar with a falsified document.

The SACC has initiated formal legal steps and is cooperating fully with the authorities to ensure that justice is served. The Chamber remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethics and professionalism across all its dealings. Until proven guilty and finally convicted, all named individuals are to be presumed innocent.

The Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce remains steadfast in its mission to promote strong and ethical commercial ties between Switzerland and Asian markets, and this incident only strengthens its resolve to protect the integrity of its members and partners.

Zurich, Switzerland - [Nov. 5. 2024] – On September 20, 2024, we informed that a group of individuals, incluidng Roger Leitner, Nathan Kaiser, Marco Ruocco, Mark Dangel, Andreas Weckherlin, Ariste Chiabotti, Nilayini Vamatheva managed to register themselves as signatories of the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce in the Commercial Register of the Canton of Zurich, using a manipulated extract of the minutes of an Annual General Meeting. Currently, they present themselves at (www.sacc.ch).

Although this registration is primarily declarative, unknowing third parties could rely on it, leading to potential misinterpretations. Given that the legal proceedings to correct this record could extend for months or even years, the legitimate representatives of the Chamber took decisive action by establishing SwissCham Asia (www.swisscham.asia) as an alternate organization to continue serving its members with the support of experienced experts for multiple Asian markets.

Once control of the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce is reestablished, both organisations intend to merge.

Dr. Urs Lustenberger, Chairman of the Board SwissCham Asia, stated, "In keeping with our chamber's tradition, we continue to organise high-quality events, both offline and online, covering topics such as the Asian economy, emerging technologies, and networking opportunities that bridge Switzerland and Asia. In October, for example, SwissCham Asia organised two workshops with AI experts and economists from Asia and Switzerland, contributed to five signature projects across Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Singapore, and issued our monthly <Asia Brief> (https://shorturl.at/yP2L2), an economic newsletter for diplomats and business circles ."
